Director's Trip to Zanzibar
In fall 2006 one of the directors of Play for the Future Foundation went to Jambiani village on the east coast of Zanzibar on a volunteer project. Tim’s report:
“We brought back a football for Play for the Future made from waste plastic bags by two young Jambiani men, a clay footy-figurine made by a 9-year-old engineering talent from a fishing family next door, and vivid memories of the people’s love and talent for the noble game.
“My partner Ronda set up our standard (machine-made) ball as a loaner for beach games: kids would ask for the ball, play, then bring the ball back when they were through; most often the ball would go right out again to another group. All ages, boys and girls, toddlers, youth and adults. After five weeks, the ball was leaky, battered, and beloved.”
